Tweeze the charge out

July 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Bergeon plastic tweezersThe Bergeon plastic tweezers are the tools to use when it comes to installing or removing a battery from a watch. Generally this tool is required only when dealing with quartz watches as the mechanical watches use the mainspring to keep the watch winded. The batteries in a quartz watch discharge electricity so as to oscillate the quartz crystal, which in turn powers up the watch.

Most of the quartz watches are either powered by the silver oxide batteries, which generate power for about two to three years after which they would have to be replaced. There are some quartz watches, which are powered by lithium batteries, with the life span of ten years or so. As it is, when it comes to handling batteries either during the installation process or during its removal, one needs to take care. These tweezers are designed so that they would not short the batteries during the handling process and at the same time, offer non-conductivity so as to protect the user.

The length of these tweezers are about 125mm in length and are quite easy to handle, allowing the user to grip even the most minute parts of the watch. They are flat and have a sharp nose thus making it easier to grip even the smallest of parts. When a battery is not handled correctly, it can easily short itself out, a fact not recognized by many a user, so it makes sense to handle them with the help of these tweezers. The need to change or replace the watch batteries can arise from a variety of causes but one of the many reasons being that the battery itself was shorted out on account of mishandling.

Selvyt polishing clothThe Selvyt polishing cloth is the best cloth to use while polishing high grade pieces of jewelry, timepieces, precision optics, crystal and silverware. These days it is not enough to purchase an intricate item of high end value like the Rolex watch but that one also has to ‘maintain’ the item. It is a necessity to polish the piece every now and then so that the item stands to full glory.
For high end items like the Rolex watch, it is a good idea to use the premium grade polishing cloth so as to achieve the optimum effect. Generally high end items such as timepieces are often associated with precision optics or crystal in one form or the other and so, one should take the maximum care when choosing what to polish them with. Although timepieces in general are customized to be durable, their casings as well as the crystal cover can quite easily be damaged while polishing it with lower grade cloth.

After all, high end items require a certain amount of high end maintenance.
The soft velvety nature of this cloth makes this the ideal polishing cloth to be utilized for polishing by many a jeweler. The soft caress that this cloth provides ensures that the item under it does not entail a scratch. Today this cloth is used for polishing most of the high end items on account of its softness as well as its durability. This cloth has been the preferred choice for more than 100 years and looks all set to be so for the near future as well.

A Watchmaker’s Essential

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Every watchmaker’s work desk must have an imperative sparkling cleanliness. The stress can never be less; with the tasks as meticulous as making sense of scores of miniature parts at hand, any distraction can be costly. Cluttered desks can inevitably lead to potentially alarming losses, as even diminutive parts when misplaced, can cause major setbacks to watch movements.

What the cleaning brushes leave behind are for the vacuum dust extractors to pick. Being powerful, versatile, and handy, Bergeon Vacuum dust extractors are used by watch repairers worldwide. Bergeon draws its prestige among the watchmakers from its more than three hundred years of experience in manufacturing tools known for their precision and attention to meticulous details.

Bergeon 5504-110 Vacuum Dust Extraction System

The 5504-110 gives practical solution to workplace solution by allowing two users to use the machine simultaneously, by having their work desk adjacent to each other’s. The oil used by the pump is specially formulated for the machine, and needs to be replaced periodically for efficient functioning. However, the interval is not that short that changing oil becomes irritating; the pump can work for eight hundred hours before needing an oil change after the first oil change.
The versatility that Bergoen offers in this package makes for an array of uses for this device. It can be called a watchmaker’s all-rounder tool and can be used for cleaning dust from over the work desk, cleaning smaller creaks and crevices on the surface, sucking dust from under the watch crystal or the dial surface and the likes. The list can go on.

With a pump sufficiently powerful and a kit containing ALL the needed apparatus, the 5504-110 will prove to be both easy to set up and adaptable to most tasks. With its known reliability and superior functionality, Bergoen tools are easily able to distinguish themselves from the rest.

See Clear; Delve Deeper

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Novice watchmakers usually are in possession of a single, all-for-one eyeglass. However, more professional watchmakers are well aware of the limitations of such an eyeglass. Varied tasks require different eyeglasses for refined use, and with watchmakers who have excelled to a high level, not having the right eyeglass limits the precision of craftsmanship.

Most off-the-shelf watch-works can be suitably done with a decent magnification. For tasks that require further precision, low strength eyepieces fall short of giving the required accuracy. Masterpiece antique watches can often drop on a watchmaker’s repair desk, and need expert hands equipped with the right specialist tools, and at the heart of the arsenal is a superior kit of eyepieces.

Bergeon 4902 Watchmakers Specialist Aplanatic Eyeglass

By furnishing an entire kit of eyepieces, each having different strength, watchmakers can be sure that whatever the complexity of the task at hand, they are ready to delve deeper. (High strength eyepieces can be detrimental for eyesight if used without a break for a long time, and so their appropriate usage must follow the safety guidelines). The strain they put on the eyes limits their use among craftsmen to more demanding tasks only, as the simpler ones can be performed to a fair degree of accuracy with low strength eyepieces too. However, for true craftsmen who want only the best, such accuracy lag behind the standards they pursue.

Bergeon tools are renowned for their advanced craftsmanship, reliability, and precision. The 4902 Specialist Aplanatic Eyeglasses are optically corrected and perform with minimal, almost negligible aberration. Professional watchmakers need to rely only on the best of lens to assure that their tasks are done with utmost precision. After all, true masterpieces are at stake.
