Replacing The Case Back On Your Rolex!

March 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

No matter how good your watch is, it will require some type or maintenance at least once a year. And for that the watchmaker has to pry open the case back of your watch with specialized tools.

No matter what watch you use, you have to give it to have the battery replaced at least once a year. And apart from that every watch requires regular maintenance to make sure that it runs at full speed. Expensive watches like a Rolex are a good example. These watches have great endurance and run on and on without any problems for years on end. But to keep them in that top condition, it’s essential that you do get it cleaned at least once a year. When you do give watches like Rolexes to watchmakers for cleaning, they have to pry open the case back with specialized equipment like High Quality Wooden Handled Case Back Knifes or mechanical vises.

Watchmakers can use a large number of devices like loupes to check for gaps before opening the case back, brushes to remove grit, dies to release the pressure inside the Case Backwatches, etc. But most watchmakers prefer the manual knives. These knives work well to pry open the case back without any scratches. Watchmakers can use mechanical appliances to open case backs for heirloom or antique watches to prevent damage to delicate one-of-a-kind interior parts. A few watchmakers who have several years experience prefer to use wooden knives which have a blunted end for scraping the grit off the case back and then lifting the cover off the back of the watch. Watchmakers can use manual case back openers with a case vise which is safer for the watchmaker and for the watch as well.

It may seem very easy but please do not attempt this by yourself as there is a strong chance that inappropriately applied forces may result in the glass face shattering or the watch fracturing.
